MINEOLA - The Long Island Rail Road managed to stay on track during the latest snowfall today after adding extra trains for the evening commute.

Commuters say they were relieved to hear announcements that their trains were running on time after the last blizzard knocked out the LIRR system.

MTA officials say they planned ahead, adding eight extra trains out of Penn Station until around 4 p.m. this afternoon.

LIRR spokesperson Sam Zambuto told News 12 Long Island that service on all braches is expected to last throughout the night.
