BAY SHORE - A Bay Shore woman is accused of stealing nearly $500,000 from an 83-year-old man, according to prosecutors.

Authorities say Lisa Ferkovich, 47, dubbed by prosecutors as the “Sweetheart Scammer,” met the victim over the summer at a supermarket in North Babylon and befriended him.

Prosecutors say Ferkovich gained the victim's trust and then drained his bank accounts while racking up $35,000 in credit card bills.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas J. Spota says Ferkovich has three other fake names and four different dates of birth on her criminal history.

Officials say she has been charged with identity theft in a separate case, where she bilked another man in his 80s by using his credit cards to buy expensive cars.

They say she has scammed as many as four elderly men over the past two years.

Detectives arrested Ferkovich at her home on Bradish Lane on the day before Thanksgiving. She was charged with grand larceny in the third degree as a hate crime.

She's scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
