HEMPSTEAD - An early morning fire that displaced residents at a rooming house in Hempstead has been deemed suspicious by investigators.
The fire broke out at around 1:30 a.m. at the house on Cornwall Lane.
Hempstead officials say eight people were inside the home at the time.
A police officer was able to alert the residents to the fire and get them out safely.
Police have not yet released further details on the nature of the fire. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
