HEMPSTEAD - Officials say a Nassau County police officer was stabbed during a confrontation with an emotionally disturbed man in Hempstead.

Investigators say the officer was responding to a call that a 32-year-old man was throwing rocks at cars at around 2:20 p.m. on Emery Street.

The officer was stabbed in the stomach while trying to apprehend the suspect outside his home, according to officials.
