MINEOLA - A local legislator is calling for a federal investigation into why more than 100 Nassau County veterans have been denied benefits that they're entitled to.

At a news conference today, Nassau County Legislator Dennis Dunne, along with the Nassau Veterans Service Agency, said they've discovered that about 130 veteran applications for benefits have been ignored since 2005.

Dunne says he wants a federal investigation completed and for those responsible to be penalized. He says Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) have also agreed to help.
