Officials hope FAA picks MacArthur for new air traffic facility

RONKONKOMA - Local elected officials gathered in Ronkonkoma today to urge the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to keep more than 1,000 jobs in the area.Two air control facilities in Westbury and Ronkonkoma are slated to close in favor of a new, modern facility. Officials including Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko and County Executive Steve Bellone (D-Suffolk) are calling on the FAA to pick MacArthur Airport as the location for the new facility.With the development of a new transportation hub in Ronkonkoma, officials say air traffic controllers would be able to walk to work at the new facility.Officials hope MacArthur Airport expansion plan takes off
