BROOKHAVEN - After a heated meeting last night, the plan to protect Carmans River was pulled at the last minute by Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko after the town board hadn't come to a vote.
The Carmans River protection plan was drawn up to preserve 13,000 acres east and west of the river. It would move future housing development away from the river and put it in the Town of Brookhaven's downtown areas.
Critics say the public should get to learn more about the plan and have a chance to vote on it.
Officials say the next step is preparing a resolution, taking all the good scientific points out of the original plan and setting meetings in the districts for community input.
