NESCONSET - Officials in Suffolk County held a public meeting tonight to outline preparations that residents should take in advance of Hurricane Irene.

Officials said that people should have a plan drawn up and a "Go Kit" ready at all times in case of an emergency.

The American Red Cross says that a "Go Kit" should contain items such as a battery-powered radio, flashlight, water, non-perishable foods and a first-aid kit.

Officials said that residents should listen to the radio or watch TV to know what to do in case the weather does take a turn for the worst.
