SELDEN - Police say a Selden woman stabbed her friend in the arm early Monday morning.

They arrested Ashley Zervakos, 22, after a dispute between the friends allegedly turned violent inside her home at 369 Magnolia Drive around 3 a.m.

The victim, a 23-year-old Manorville woman, had lost a lot of blood by the time police arrived.

Suffolk police say Officer Kevin Butler stopped the bleeding with a combat application tourniquet, a rare move that the officer says he'd only done before in training exercises.

First responders rushed the victim to Stony Brook University Hospital's trauma center, where a team led by Dr. James Vosswinkel treated her further.

Vosswinkel credited Butler's actions with helping save the woman's life.

Zervakos is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning at the First District Court in Central Islip. She's facing assault charges.
