DEER PARK - The NYPD officer who was shot while protecting a woman in Queens has been released from the hospital.

Officer Joseph Koch, of Deer Park, was off-duty when he was shot in the hand on Sunday. Police say it happened while he was trying to protect a woman who was being attacked. The alleged attacker was shot in the stomach during the incident.

News 12 is told that Koch will need to have several operations before his hand is back to 100 percent.
