Officer injured in crash on Sunrise Highway

Officials tell News 12 the officer was not seriously injured. (7/11/14)

HOLBROOK - A police officer has been seriously hurt after a pickup truck slammed into his patrol car on Sunrise Highway in Holbrook.

Chopper 12 was over the scene at Exit 51 Friday afternoon. News 12 has learned that Suffolk County police received a 911 call of a pickup truck weaving on the westbound side of the highway.

A highway patrol officer pulled over in order to wait for the truck to pass his vehicle. The officer's vehicle was then struck by the same pickup truck that was reportedly weaving on Sunrise Highway.

The officer was air-lifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. Officials say the 23-year-old driver of the pickup truck, Jason Rosenzweig, of Montauk Point, suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene.

Rosenzweig was issued two summonses for reckless driving and unsafe lane change.
