WOODBURY - An off-duty state trooper from the Bronx was arrested after police say he struck another trooper's patrol car on the Southern State Parkway yesterday.

Police say the on-duty trooper was sitting in his patrol car on the side of the highway yesterday near Eagle Avenue when his vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda.

The driver of the Honda has been identified as 28-year-old Brendan Murphy, a trooper with Troop F. Officials say Murphy drove around the cruiser after the crash and headed east, but was pulled over some 200 feet down the road.

Murphy failed sobriety tests and his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.21 percent, nearly three times the legal limit.

Murphy was arrested for DWI and leaving the scene of an accident. He has been suspended from duty.

The officer whose vehicle was struck suffered a minor back injury and was hospitalized, but has been released.
