FLORAL PARK - An NYPD officer from Long Island is recovering after being shot in the hand while responding to a boy's cry for help.

Police say NYPD officer Joseph Koch, of Deer Park, was off duty at a party in Jamaica last night when he went to investigate a domestic dispute.

According to authorities, a man in the home struggled to get Koch's weapon and three shots were fired. Koch was struck in the hand.

The suspect, Jose Bernazard, was shot in the stomach.

Both men were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
