Police say the detective saw Carlos Parada-Hernandez trying to enter a home on Metropolitan Avenue.

NORTH BELLMORE - Police say an off-duty Nassau County detective lieutenant is being credited for catching an alleged burglar in North Bellmore.

Police say the detective saw Carlos Parada-Hernandez trying to enter a home on Metropolitan Avenue.

According to police, when the officer approached the man he allegedly found burglar tools on him.

News 12 Long Island has been told the home's screen doors were also pried open.

Parada-Hernandez is facing burglary charges.
