WOODBURY - An Oceanside fifth-grader competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee spelled his words correctly for his first three rounds, but fell short of getting into tomorrow's semifinals.

Dean Creedon, 10, was one of 278 spellers who were competing for only 50 spots in the semifinals.

The semifinals and finals will be held tomorrow and will be broadcast on the ESPN networks. The winner of the spelling bee will receive a $30,000 scholarship.
