WOODBURY - President Barack Obama is pushing once again for extending tax cuts for middle-class Americans, and he's urging his opponents in Congress to go along with the plan.At a White House press conference this afternoon, the president proposed extending the Bush-era tax cuts for everyone earning less than $250,000 per year.Republicans have said they want to extend the cuts for all Americans, including the very wealthy. Those cuts are set to expire at the end of the year. Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who was campaigning in the Hamptons this weekend, says the president's plan amounts to a "massive tax increase." Long Islanders who spoke to News 12 Long Island about the tax cuts were split on the issue. Some say $250,000 shouldn't qualify as "very wealthy," while others say those who earn more should have to pay proportionally larger taxes.
