NYPD officer pleads not guilty in alleged wrong-way DWI

WOODBURY - A NYPD officer accused of driving drunk in the wrong direction on the Sagtikos Parkway pleaded not guilty today in a Central Islip court.

Investigators say 26-year-old officer Candice Smith, of Valley Stream, registered a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit when she was arrested on Dec. 4.

News 12 Long Island Graphic Artist Eric Minkoff saw Smith driving on the wrong side of the Sagtikos Parkway.

Minkoff followed Smith for 8 miles and then blocked the off-duty officer's car until police arrived and arrested her.
