NYPD officer Jason Sharp allegedly struck 3-year-old son in face

Documents: Drunk NYPD officer punched son (March 4, 2013)

BELLMORE - An NYPD officer from Nassau County is accused of punching his 3-year-old son in the face and may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time, according to court documents.

Court records state that 37-year-old Jason Sharp allegedly hit the young boy at their Bellmore home on Saturday afternoon. The child suffered swelling and bruising to his right eye, cheek and nose, and was rushed to the hospital.

Sharp had been assigned to a gang unit in Brooklyn, but has since been suspended from the force pending an investigation. Authorities have not released a photo of Sharp or specific details into the incident due to the sensitive nature of his job.

Nassau police say there is no history of previous domestic violence at the couple's home.

Sharp was arraigned over the weekend for assault and endangering the welfare of a child, but was released on his own recognizance.
