MANHATTAN - Revelers flocked to New York City Saturday for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.
An estimated 2 million people lined up along Fifth Avenue to watch the 252nd annual parade.
Irish New Yorkers have been marching through the streets of New York since 1762. Members of the Fighting 59th, nicknamed the Fighting Irish, have been leading the parade since the 1850s.
"We were originally guarding the parade during the anti-Irish movement," First Lt. Rich Reilly says. "And once that ended, we moved to the front of the parade as honor for our service to the parade."
More St. Patrick's Day celebrations are being held today in towns around Long Island.
