WOODBURY - Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is making a push to prevent E-ZPass fines from taking a toll on drivers' wallets.

The senator says he wants a text message alert system that will notify E-ZPass holders when they have a low balance. He says drivers who use the fast line when there's a problem with their account don't realize it until after they're hit with a fine for each unpaid toll.

A spokesperson for the MTA says that they plan to implement a text message alert system by the end of the year.
