The measure passed in the Assembly, but Senate co-majority leader Dean Skelos tells News 12 he will not bring the bill to the floor for a vote.

ALBANY - The New York State Senate did not vote Friday on a bill aimed at protecting Long Island's water.

The groundwater protection law would have established guidelines on pesticides and fertilizers to limit pollution in Long Island's waterways and groundwater. Environmental activists, who had been lobbying in Albany all week, accused the Senate of caving to developers and the agricultural community.

State Senate Co-Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) says there was significant opposition to the bill. Skelos says he wants to rewrite the bill that takes into account both the environmental community and farmers and the developers. Sen. Ken LaValle (R-Port Jefferson) sponsored the bill and tells News 12 Long Island that it's important that Skelos is willing to work on getting the bill passed eventually.

The bill had passed overwhelmingly in the state Assembly.
