ALBANY - (AP) - The new ethics law agreement inscandal-scarred Albany includes a provision that would allow theLegislature to veto investigations of its own members within thesame party.
Good-government groups, however, say the overall proposal isstill potentially a vast improvement.
The veto provision is intended to avoid what Gov. Andrew Cuomocalls a partisan "political witch hunt." If vetoed, a case wouldremain a secret.
It was discussed Monday during the second announcement of theplan by Cuomo and leaders of the Legislature.
But there is still no bill with details of the proposed law andclosed-door negotiations continued since Friday's celebratory pressrelease.
Cuomo wouldn't publicly release the latest draft on Monday.
