NORTH MASSAPEQUA - An NYPD detective killed in the line of duty was honored Friday at an elementary school in North Massapequa.
Students at Eastplain Elementary unveiled a seating area, which includes benches and a plaque, as a tribute to 25-year-old Brian Moore.
Detective Moore was shot and killed in the line of duty in May. The incident happened while Moore was questioning a suspect in Queens. Moore’s father Raymond attended the unveiling.
“I think this is a beautiful thing. The kids and the community…recognize Brian for what he sacrificed,” said Raymond Moore.
Brian Moore was an alumnus of Eastplain and Plainedge High School.
A tree planted during the ceremony grew from seeds of the callery pear tree - the only tree near Ground Zero to survive the Sept. 11 attacks.
The school also dedicated a memorial to the 9/11 first responders.
