WOODBURY - A 12-year-old North Massapequa boy with Down syndrome was given the chance to play in a local football league, scoring a touchdown and winning the accolades of his teammates and coaches.Click NEXT to hear an interview with Michael's father, Vincent DiMarco, and a member of the Association for Children with Down Syndrome.Michael DiMarco, 12, says he loves football, and that he and his father constantly play in their backyard. His younger brother, Vinny, plays for the Plainedge Bobcats, whose coach, John Petrucci, has invited Michael to practices for the past three years. Last month, Petrucci decided to contact a fellow coach, Dave Fantry, of the Bethpage Eagles, to ask if he would allow Michael to take a live snap during a game. "If the circumstances were different, I knew they would do it for us," Fantry said. "So there was no doubt we were going to do it." With two seconds left in a game the Bobcats already led by a sizable margin, Michael took a handoff from his brother, running 50 yards for a touchdown. Petrucci says Michael was given the game ball.
