NORTH HEMPSTEAD - The Town of North Hempstead is having second thoughts about killing Canada geese and giving their meat to food banks.

The town board says there's so much goose poop in their parks that it wanted Department of Agriculture permission to gas the geese.

However, animal activists flocked to a town meeting, opposing the plan and threatened to be back tomorrow.

North Hempstead officials tell Newsday everything is now "on hold."
