NORTH BELLPORT - A community plagued by shootings and stabbings will now be getting a high-tech tool to help combat crime.

The ShotSpotter will be coming to North Bellport after Suffolk County legislators announced they have secured the $200,000 needed to make the system a reality.

The tool uses an audio-surveillance system that pinpoints and alerts police to where gunfire is coming from. Residents say the system is a step in the right direction after seven people were shot in the area just last year.
