NORTH BELLMORE - Parents are angry over the plans and location of a North Bellmore summer camp set to open this year.

Next summer, Camp Iconic will be up and running at the former Jacob Gunther Elementary School, which is now the site of a nursery school.

Some residents are concerned that the camp will share the property with a nursery school. Sketches of the camp show tennis courts, soccer fields, beach volleyball, an in-ground swimming pool and multiple tent-like structures.

Camp employees say the tents and nets will be collapsible and portable. The only permanent structure will be a 4-feet-deep swimming pool.

The board is considering the proposal for the swimming pool and is expected to have a decision in the next couple of weeks.

The lease, which was approved by the school district, runs through 2021.
