BAY SHORE - Dozens of teachers in the Bay Shore School District have been given layoff notices, Newsday reports.

According to Newsday, about 40 teachers got the notices yesterday, although it does not mean that all of them will definitely get laid off.

As News 12 Long Island has reported, the district is grappling with a $5 million budget gap. District officials say the layoffs could save as much as $4 million.

So far, more than 20 teachers have opted for early retirement.
