WOODBURY - News12.com and Newsday may have been targeted by hackers today.

Users who tried to access the sites through Firefox or Google Chrome received an alert screen. The alert warned that the sites had possibly been compromised with malware or a virus.

Cablevision says an unauthorized third party illegally accessed its systems, but emphasized that the personal information of users was not compromised.

Mashable.com Editor-in-Chief Lance Ulanoff says cyber attacks on media companies are becoming more frequent. He says security software is a must for any computer user, though he says it's not foolproof.

The sites are now accessible in all browsers.
