WOODBURY - News 12 got a sneak peak at the revamped SAT exam for 2016.

The College Board says its college entrance test can do a better job connecting with today's students. On Wednesday, it unveiled sample questions from the new SAT exam, which will ditch arcane vocabulary words and make questions relate more to real-world and historical events.

The math section concentrates on real-world problem solving with a focus on hotel taxes, gas mileage and currency exchange rates.

School administrators say the redesigned test aims to focus on topics more connected to what students learn in class.

The revamped SAT also tests students' knowledge of historical documents such as the Gettysburg Address. It also drops the requirement of a written essay. The exam will be given for the first time in the spring of 2016.

The College Board, which oversees the SAT, says the exam will be more straightforward but remain extremely thorough.
