STONY BROOK - A newlywed Patchogue couple’s wedding weekend was ruined after their wedding gifts were allegedly stolen from their Stony Brook hotel room.

Eric and Kerry Clark were married on Friday at the Miller Place Inn. They told News 12 they opened all of their cards and gifts inside their hotel room at the Holiday Inn Express on Route 347 in Stony Brook.

The couple says they left the checks and the cash in separate places in the room, not realizing there was a safe in the bridal suite. They say when they left the room on Sunday for a few hours, someone came in and stole the bag with the cash.

The couple says more than $5,000 was stolen.

Suffolk police confirmed that the Clarks filed a police report. They say the theft is an open investigation.

News 12 spoke with the owner of the hotel who said they are working with the police.
