WYANDANCH - The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) unveiled a new initiative today that it says will prevent more pollution in the community of Wyandanch.As part of a new initiative called Operation Eco-Quality, officers are ticketing diesel truck drivers who aren't complying with clean air standards. Officers are also visiting local businesses to point out potential hazards like vapors, spills and other harmful fluids. The DEC says it started the pilot program in low-income and minority communities. Wyandanch is the first town on Long Island to take part, but the program has already been introduced in other parts of the state.
