WOODBURY - Starting today, more planes will fly over Nassau County in a new and controversial flight pattern out of John F. Kennedy Airport.

The new route sends westbound planes east, taking off over Nassau before they swing north and then turn over central New Jersey.

The old pattern kept westbound planes west and south of Long Island.

The FAA says all court rulings show the new flight pattern is legal. New flight patterns promise to bring the noise to LIAirspace over LI could soon become busier
