HEMPSTEAD - An old college dormitory is giving Long Islanders a new opportunity to find an affordable place to live.

The Community Development Corporation of Long Island and a group of donors today celebrated the grand opening of a new affordable housing complex at the old Hofstra University dorm in Hempstead. Rent will range from $1,100 to $1,300 per month.

Officials say it took two years and almost $30 million to complete the renovations, which were paid for with county tax credits, subsidies and local business grants.
