PORT WASHINGTON - Nearly 900 cats and dogs, including some rescued from the wreckage in Oklahoma, are looking for families this weekend on Long Island.

North Shore Animal League America is hosting its annual pet adopt-a-thon.

Thousands of shelters and rescue centers from across the globe will gather in Port Washington in the hope of placing homeless pets with new and loving families.

The adopt-athon is a 36-hour event, and will run until Sunday at 9 p.m.
