WOODBURY - A special unit in the Nassau County Police Department is working on ending underage drinking.

News 12 Long Island's Erin Colton rode along when 5th precinct cops enforced what they call "Project 21." It is a program enforced by officers to stop the sale of alcohol to those who are underage.

Sgt. Ed Grimm heads the task force and says underage agents are sent in to see if the clerks are going to sell alcohol to them. The underage agent is part of the NCPD Explorers program.

The Project 21 task force heads out on the streets about twice a month. So far, police say about 35 people have been arrested this year.
