National Grid crews work to get power back

Several thousand Long Islanders lost power during the blizzard last night. (February 9, 2013)

BETHPAGE - National Grid crews are working to get power back on for the several thousand Long Islanders who lost it during the snowstorm Friday night.

The National Grid workers are using Bethpage State Park for a staging area to register and brief trucks before they go out.

After the briefing the trucks are released with guides to the site to which they have been assigned.

A National Grid official yesterday estimated that customers' service would be restored within 24 hours of the outage. Now, a spokeswoman says outages may last longer if unplowed streets hinder access to neighborhoods.
