WOODBURY - Police in Nassau and Suffolk counties are stepping up patrols for the long holiday weekend.

Suffolk County Sheriffs Department Chief Michael Sharkey says that virtually every police agency in Suffolk is participating in a crackdown against drunken drivers.

Chief Sharkey says they're taking on a zero-tolerance policy and have set up DWI checkpoints throughout the county.

Once a suspected drunken driver is caught at a checkpoint, they will be taken to a Breath Alcohol Testing mobile unit.

The unit is equipped with cameras, computers, blood alcohol testing equipment and a holding cell.

The devices help cut the time it takes an officer to process and arrest suspects.
