Nassau, Suffolk open warming centers

Nassau and Suffolk counties have offered the warming centers due to the excessive cold. (1/24/13)

WOODBURY - Officials have activated warming centers in both Nassau and Suffolk counties for those who are in the dangerous cold without heat.

If you are seeking emergency shelter from the cold, Nassau County has activated its Warm Bed hotline. The hotline is open seven days a week and can be reached at 1-866-WARM-BED.

Southampton Town has opened several warming centers. There are locations open in Flanders, Hampton Bays and Bridgehampton between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The following locations will be open as warming centers from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. in the Town of Hempstead today:

Merrick Golf Course Clubhouse, 2550 Clubhouse Road, Merrick
