LEVITTOWN - ? Security at theaters across Long Island is being stepped up in response to the Colorado massacre.

Nassau and Suffolk police tell News 12 Long Island that they are both stepping up patrols to intensify security at movie theaters showing the "The Dark Knight Rises."

Police stress that they have no indication Long Island is going to be targeted in a similar attack.

However, Nassau police say they're consulting with local theater chains to find out what security they will have on hand.

The NYPD also added extra cops at showings as a precaution. For more on the movie theater massacre, click iO Extra on Channel 612.Officials: 12 dead, 59 wounded in Colo. movie theater massacre
