EAST MEADOW - Nassau has secured funds to repair the county's Sept. 11 memorial that has recently fallen into disrepair.

An inspection of the memorial at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow reveals that its POW flag has been worn out and part of the chain fence has broken off, in addition to many other smaller issues like worn-out tiles and cracked walls.

"Over the years, it's fallen into a state of embarrassing disrepair," says state Assemblyman Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove). "This is very harmful and hurtful to those of us who lost friends and relatives on Sept. 11."

That's why Lavine says he helped secure $125,000 in state funding to restore the site.

A Nassau spokesperson says the county is working on a timetable for repairs at the site, and it hopes the renovations will be completed before September.
