MINEOLA - Hundreds of Nassau County residents were out in full force today, protesting cuts to programs on the chopping block.

As of midnight, many mental health counseling programs, after-school tutoring programs and drug rehabilitation programs will no longer receive Nassau County funding.

The cuts affect more than 50 Nassau County youth social service agencies. County Executive Ed Mangano said the cuts were necessary to help free up $40 million to pay tax refunds.
