HEMPSTEAD - Nassau residents met tonight to call for the reduction of noise from jets heading to or leaving John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Residents say that the jets frequently fly over their homes at all hours of the day and night, sometimes every few minutes.

Residents asked the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, to create a more equitable distribution of where aircraft fly over, to cut down on low-flying airplanes and cut back on late-night flights.

Residents are planning to meet again to discuss noise abatement in East Williston on Oct. 22.
