WOODBURY - (AP) - The Nassau County Department of Health isreporting its first death from West Nile virus this year. The victim is identified only as an adult older than 70 wholived in the town of Oyster Bay. Department spokeswoman Mary EllenLaurain says the man had an underlying medical condition, but shecould not elaborate. She also said privacy rules prevent her fromsaying when the person died. As of Sept. 13, the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionreported seven people had died from the disease across the countryin 2011. This year in Nassau County, nine humans and 29 mosquito poolshave tested positive for West Nile virus. The county employs spraying and has deployed 42 trap sites tocapture mosquitoes blamed for carrying the disease.
