Nassau preps for DWI holiday crackdown

PLAINVIEW - County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) and Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice held a news conference today to announce a crackdown on drunken driving this holiday weekend. Officials said there will be a larger police presence on the roadways for New Year's Eve to catch drunken drivers. During the news conference, Mangano and Rice also unveiled a free safety busing program for partygoers sponsored by the group Restaurants Against Drunk Driving.The bus will carry people from bars and restaurants along Hempstead Turnpike, Old Country Road and Jericho Turnpike. Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey issued a warning that those who choose to drink, but refuse to take the free transportation, will be arrested.Free cab rides from Ollie's taxi service: 516-355-2820RADD free bus service: 516-326-9090
