Nassau police: Thieves targeting students in robbery spree

UNIONDALE - Nassau County police say they're on the hunt for a gang of thieves who have been targeting students around a private school in Uniondale. In less than an hour yesterday, the robbers stole cell phones from five students near Kellenberg High School, investigators say. The suspects were not armed, but did become aggressive: one victim told police he was punched in the face, and another says her phone was ripped out of her hands. In total, five students were robbed in four separate incidents. Today, another teen was robbed, this time by Uniondale High School, according to school officials. They say the high school student was walking home when he was approached by two male suspects who stole his iPad. Police are investigating, although they haven't said if it may be related to yesterday's robberies. Nassau police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
