WOODMERE - Nassau's top police officials met with the head of a Woodmere temple Thursday to address their pistol license inspection just as services were about to begin this past Saturday.

Reports say seven officers showed up at Young Israel of Woodmere to question members of the temple's security team about possible pistol license violations.

Police did not find any violations, but their appearance before services upset people. News 12 is told that the officers never went inside the synagogue.

At a meeting on Monday, Hempstead Town Board member Bruce Blakeman said that it appeared that the "police department investigation was legitimate, but all agree that it was poorly executed, poorly timed and not well thought out."

Police and synagogue leaders are scheduled to meet again next week.

Young Israel is Long Island's largest Orthodox Jewish synagogue.
