WOODBURY - Nassau officials are offering a free ride program for teens during prom season.

Officials say that between Memorial Day and Labor Day, almost 2,000 teens nationwide lose their lives.

The Centers for Disease Control and Preventions says drinking, drugs and subsequent driving is the reason.

At Winthrop University Hospital, county officials and hospital staff announced the free ride program to help keep teens safe during the so-called 100 Deadliest Days of Summer.

The rides are provided by All Island Taxis. All Island Taxi says it will have 400 taxis available through the month of June.

Marge Lee', whose son Ken died after her family was hit by a drunken driver 25 years ago, has also dedicated her life to combat drunken and drugged driving. She has handed out hundreds of prom checklist pamphlets to Long Island schools.
