BELMONT - County officials say "all options are on the table" in regard to possible sites for the new Nassau Coliseum, including a proposal to move the sports and entertainment hub to the Belmont Raceway.

Elmont Civic Group President Pat Nicholosi says for years, his organization has been pushing to transform the underutilized state land that houses the racetrack into an entertainment destination.

If the plan goes forward, Belmont could house the raceway, a casino proposed by the Shinnecock Indians, and now possibly the Coliseum.

"The devil is in the details," Nicholosi says. "We need to see what's going to be with this Coliseum, what fits in the plan."

So far, however, County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) hasn't been forthcoming with details about the proposal.

Those who live near Belmont have mixed feelings about bringing the Coliseum to the area, with some people backing the plan, with others expressing concerns about traffic.

Moving the Coliseum to Elmont would require state approval, and Mangano says he is working with Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) on the plan.

The county executive says he will release more details on the proposal Oct. 14.
