WOODBURY - Nassau County's latest budget proposal will likely lead to the dismissal of more than 500 jobs.

County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) had until 5 p.m. this evening to submit his revised plan to close the county's budget gap, a deadline given by the Nassau Interim Finance Authority (NIFA).

Sources tell News 12 Long Island that Mangano's budget includes 213 layoffs and the elimination of 307 vacant positions. The provisions also call for a 13-day furlough for county workers, and Mangano has asked NIFA to freeze employee wages.

Mangano has been trying to fill Nassau's $176 million budget gap. He says his most recent proposal does not include any tax increases.
